Developing my kinda Woman is how I like to frame the person, the woman, I encouraged and sought after. I grew up in a matriarchy, surrounded by examples of unbelievably strong, compassionate, courageous, witty, and loving women. With that background, I knew I wanted to be the kind of person who cultivates the same community, opportunity, and kindness that were my examples. Whether it was chasing mountain tops and oceans, or learning the peaks and troughs of what it truly is to hold space for others, or curating the kind of magic that a good friendship, sisterhood, or conversation can create between people, I found my kinda girl, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the people and places who nurtured her.
I am really proud of the person I’ve pursued– that person is a strong, independent, but community oriented woman who is invested in friendships, in knowledge, in family, and in the world– in science, profession, or otherwise. I think that evolution, of deciding the values I stand for and care about, is what I am most proud of evolving during my time at UW.
